So, if the goal is simplicity, where does one draw the line?

No search? How will people find threads to prevent duplication?

No user history? I can't find my own posts?

I wonder if these will eventually be necessitated if this forum is successful, as defined by a large number of users and posts.

Obviously, the code isn't very scalable since the act of writing to a thread involves file-locking for append operations. I hope this takes off to see how you retool your own code to handle high load.

Nice addition, it blends in quite good. Although in Opera 10.63 it's out of place: [img263.imageshack.us/…]

Kroc, Wannes, the same happens on Google Chrome.

Just refresh. That’s old cache doing that.

So what's next on the wishlist for features? Is it editing your own posts? On second thought, it would mess up the rss-flow rather severe.

Quotations style? But where do you draw the line? At links, quotations, italics,... I do think at some point it will collide with your forum-goals.

What about people wanting to use your forum for there own, but lack the coding skills to extend it to their need/will.

I'm curious to see what more could be done with this forum, while still keeping it as simple as possible.

What are the most common things in forums? Normal threads about random topics, tutorials, replies to other people who commented, quotes from other sites and gigantic snippets of code. Lets make it so these are easy.

In my opinion, quote and code blocks are essential. Anything else is a nice or not-so-nice extra. Lists could be useful, but not necessary. Beyond that, the only useful things I see missing are two features only for admins and moderators: the ins and del elements.

I should point out that there will never be editing. When a post is committed it's converted from plaintext to HTML that goes into the RSS. Editing would therefore require converting the HTML back to plaintext. This seems like unnecessary work and code.

Instead, I'd like to allow post-appending, so a user can add additional text to the end of their post to state any corrections. This avoids anybody trying to alter facts post-facto; they always have the option to delete the whole post and post again if there's major errors.

Quote and Code markup will be added, as these will be necessary for themes with a normal proportional font.

(Leave this as-is, it’s a trap!)

There is no need to “register”, just enter the same name + password of your choice every time.

Pro tip: Use markup to add links, quotes and more.
