Google desktop and RSS

In your recent essay on the shortcomings of the RSS consumption experience, one of the things you complained about was that browsers should know what RSS feeds we might want to view because they know wht websites we visit frequently.

This reminded me of a feature I saw in Google Desktop years ago that I thought would help RSS go mainstream. google desktop would look for rss feeds on the sites you visited frequently, and then aggregate the RSS items from those sites in a sidebar.

Didn’t even know this! If Google can do this, then why not in Chrome? People use the browser most, having to open yet-another-app to get RSS to then go browse the web is not going to boost usage.

(Leave this as-is, it’s a trap!)
