HTML5 video on the PS Vita

append delete patrick

Hi -

Does anyone have sample html5 and video that plays on a Playstation Vita?

I can encode and copy video to the PS Vita for playback in the Vita's video app, but can't get the browser to play those same videos.

I can get video to play back without an issue in Firefox, Chrome, Safari and even on the iPhone/pod's browsers using html5.

The Vita can play youtube videos in its browser, and I can download and copy those same videos to the Vita for playback in the Vita's video app. But, I can't figure out WTF youtube does on its web pages to support this.

Various NSFW sites can also playback video in the browser without an issue (other than web pages taking a long time to load).

The Vita does not have flash support.

Thanks ...

And http://camendesign.com/code/video_for_everybody/test.html does not play, it (like the pages I've tried) just shows a black image where the video playback is located.

Formats that can be played back are as follows.

MP4 (MPEG-4) (System software 2.10 or later)
HTTP Live Streaming (Internet-Draft) Protocol Version 03 (System software 2.50 or later)
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-pantos-http-live-streaming-05

File types that can be played back are as follows.

H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Baseline/Main/High Profile Level 3.1 maximum 720p
AAC

Do your videos meet those requirements? That spec was written in 2013 so may be outdated.

Thanks, yes the video meets those requirements, and the requirements in that spec haven't changed (at least with 3.30).

I also tried with lower resolution video, and it still did not work.

Let me see if I can get plex working, and see how they serve video to the Vita, and maybe just use that instead since it's pretty much what I want to do anyway.

OK, I got it working, I had to add an onclick="this.play()" to get it to work, like this:

<video controls onclick="this.play()">
<source src="somevideo.mp4" type='video/mp4; codecs="avc1.42E01E, mp4a.40.2"'>
</video>

Vita is supported video for example ( MPEG-4 Simple Profile Level 3, Maximum 320x240 pixels, AAC) H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Baseline/Main/High Profile Level 3.1, Maximum 720p, AAC) If you are struggling spiritually, that is good.
