Hey... Just wondering how to disable the detection for iPhone? As in preventing the forum mobile optimisation feature... Please help

It's based on the size of the screen -- not on the type of device. I think that if you remove this line:

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1" />

from the themes/greyscale/*.html files, then the iPhone should treat the forum as desktop-size and show it zoomed out.

What's the problem with the mobile optimisation though? Is there something it can't do?

Well one of the issue I am having is including the forum as part of a webapp, when the forum is loaded within the app on an iPad it is displaying the iPhone dimension.

The desktop theme has a pretty wide margin. If you remove the viewport tag like @Kroc suggests, you may also want to change the following line in the theme.css.

body, #mast h1 a		{/* page centering / width */
				 width: 80%; max-width: 1024px; margin: 0 auto;}

body, #mast h1 a		{/* page centering / width */
				 width: 95%; max-width: 1024px; margin: 0 auto;}

Why... hack is the answer and jailbreak too...

hack is the answer

Huh. I thought that was alcohol. Maybe it depends on the question ;-)

As for the OP's original question (sorry I'm a bit late to the party)... I'm not convinced removing the

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1" />

line will entirely solve the problem. It sounds to me as if there is something about the app itself that is affecting the rendering. If I were you, I would try to establish why that is the case rather than produce a worse experience for your users.

the forum is loaded within the app on an iPad it is displaying the iPhone dimension

Basically establish why this sentence is the case, instance of defaulting to finding a work around.
