Camen Design Forum

Lovely Forum! I am going to have a go with it!

Hi Kroc and friends,

I have been lurking here for the last day or so reading all about No Nonsense Forum, ideas about passwords, getting email alerts from rss, etc. I found you by accident when I was looking, yet again, for a simple forum for a group of people who are dramatically less technically savvy than even I am.

I am not sure if NNF is the right thing but it is certainly a lot better than anything else I have found.

So far, I have downloaded the package, read through the instructions and then, belatedly, downloaded the Git-thing for Mac.

Then I decided that that looked too complicated, so I am trying to work out how to uninstall it in order to use github for Mac, as that looks as if it might be easier.

I stopped handcoding html for websites about 4 years ago in favour of the ease of update of a Wordpress blog so I am a bit rusty - and I was interested that you are thinking of making a blog too!

It would be VERY neat if the forum and blog commenting could work together like this:

Something that worries me, naturally, is the idea of someone with malicious intent getting in and posting something vile that would upset people and stop them coming back. I know that posts can be deleted but it is a bit late if it had already got to everyone via rss feed or email forwarding.

I have been running small-membership email groups on Yahoo and Google for well over 10 years and have managed to catch all spam posts before they were published by having the "First Posts are Moderated" settings turned on.

However, that goes against the ease of access that is one of the very attractive aspects of No Nonsense Forum.

I know that there have already been lots of discussions here about keeping out human rather than automated nastiness and I have read them.

I would be really interested to know how you, and other No Nonsense Forum Admins, manage to prevent this sort of intrusion, rather than just clearing up the mess afterwards. The solutions I have read just recommend vigilant administration but nothing more specific.

I would be very grateful for your thoughts.

Best wishes,

(Leave this as-is, it’s a trap!)
