You claim this forum is open web but the standart way way to create a forum are the usenet newsgroups.
why doesn't this forum post to use net ?

The Web != Usenet. This is a web forum.
I chose to use a web forum over a usenet group as it is much more readily accessible. Readers of my website can click a link on the main site and view the forum immediately. Other websites can link to specific threads.
The user thus does not need to download and install a news client, configure it to read my forum and then download the headers. I could neither explain this simply enough to others, nor could other websites link to the forum easily. Using usenet just puts a needless barrier between my website readers and joining the discussion on the forums.
You managed to post your question with next to no effort; does that not answer your own question? :)
I wonder if original question is just troll. :)
It is getting difficult to get a usenet service from any ISP for free (at least here in Finland). Largest ISP shut down their last commercially operated usenet server in 2009 (other ISPs did same earlier).
Afaik now only some universities here are offering free usenet server access for general public if DNS resolves to .fi. And available groups are mostly just finnish sfnet groups. Circle has kinda closed - universities started usenet and universities will probably be the final institutions to offer it. I wonder if IRC will eventually have the same fate as usenet.
I think it was just two weeks ago when I went to see how active those old favourite groups are. As two or threee years before, groups were mostly empty or polluted by spam. No user base, no content.
I agree this forum is more like comments than a full forum.
but why not use this forum as a UI wrapper around usenet ?
that way another website can access and publish topics in this forum.
Google groups does it.
The web involves a few standards, web, Irc, newsgroups and other
why do you dismiss Irc and usenet for the standard way to chat and discuss ?
Another thing to keep in mind that RSS is a standrd way to consume the forum thread, not to publish into it
I share the viewpoints of Kroc and Oldtimes on this.
Usenet is archaic and not supported by all ISPs.
I'm sure a lot of groups still depend on usenet, but for something new and fresh like this forum, a simpler approach is perfect.
I particularly like the simple username and password system. And I have the RSS feeding my Google Reader. Works for me :)
Oh noes, it's the Usenet police! Cheez-It, guys!
But yeah. Read Kroc's Rule #2. That pretty much says it all. I don't really see what the big deal is...
Firstly, let's not attack gadys, s/he is entitled to their opinion; and has a valid point that I am technically re-inventing the wheel, but--
The original implementation of this forum was 700 lines of code. It took three days to make.
If I had tried to make a UI around Usenet, I would still be here coding months later. In likelihood, I would not have bothered and just used Google Groups, which I would neither own, nor control, nor could I style it how I wanted.
The fact is that in three days and less than a thousand lines of text, I created a system that lets people across the world communicate with each other. 50 years ago that would have been heralded as one of the greatest achievements of mankind; now it's a common every-day occurrence.
I set my goals, and I met them in the shortest time and simplest implementation. The end result though is what matters, and not the implementation. Be it usenet or RSS, we're able to have this discussion.
Sorry, I didn't mean to make it seem as though I was attacking gadys... although, I guess I can see now how that may have come across as such.
The first line was just meant to inject some humor into the conversation. The rest is pretty much how I feel, but I could have worded it better.
No offense intended, gadys. :)
That wasn’t aimed at you directly Clint, just generally. I’m sure many readers disagree with gadys, but that's not reason to set upon them. I’d like plenty of variety in the forums, I think there's room for many kinds of people.
I didn't know usenet was the designated official way of running a forum on the internet. :)
@SpeedoJoe: me too! I had to google it :)
