Clyde, that's misunderstanding the difference between media and format. The floppy disk was superseded by the USB pen. People could still carry their data about. RSS could be superseded by Twitter and Facebook; your favourite websites won't stop functioning.

The problem is if the keys to communication are held by private companies who are prone to a bit of censoring when it suits them.
