I looked at the main page briefly, I still don't "get it" as far as what the site's purpose is, and I have the attention span of a drunken gnat. I assume it's a site on 3D-rendered scenes... I'm a graphics person, but not so much a 3D graphics person.

while that specific thing is indeed rendered, the demoscene is actually about programming, visuals and audio... and the whole package is a demo[nstration of technical and artistical abilities] - and executable file

a good place to start out is http://pouet.net/ , but you will need a slightly longer attention span than that of a gnat to really "get it" though :D I collected links to some of my favourites here: http://sandboxx.org/johann/favourite_demos/ and that also has youtube links for the impatient... but to get the real effect, download the executable and run it... it's NOT (just) about "rendered graphics", it's so much more.
