Game idea: Ikebana

Ikebana is the Japanese art form which consists of flower arrangement, where minimalism and planning is key to creating beautiful compositions.

-----

Introduction:

Proposed game idea is a turn-based puzzle (the flowers arranged can be considered as puzzle) game, similar to dominoes, which employs combinatorics and forces player to use tactics against others. The game itself can be played in single player (against an AI) or in multiplayer (against other players). The game isn't platform dependant, however requires network or Internet access for multiplayer.

Concept:

The goal of the game is to complete the ikebana using the provided flowers. The player to place the last flower from the storage into the ikebana wins the game. Depending on the preset difficulty of the round, the number of players, types of flowers added and so forth, the players need to employ a variety of tactics in order to win the game.

As players join the game and as round begins, they are presented with a shared container and a repository of various flowers and plants. Each player can choose how many flowers of one type can be added to the container and each player must add a flower in his round. Globally, maximum flowers to add in the round is 5 and minimum flowers to add is one.

Each flower can have its level; for example, tulips can be added in bulk of five pieces per turn, and roses can be added in bulk of two pieces per round. If a flower is more rare it can have a larger level and it can, in lesser amount be present in the game. Players can add flowers of only one specie during one round, so adding two roses and three tulips is not allowed. This is controlled through the difficulty, where it can be determined which species will be present and in which amount.

Example:

%
5 players join the game, one player gets randomly picked as first

Game starts with:
32	tulips (max 5)
27	daisies (max 4)
20	roses (max 3)
11	irises (max 2)
8	callas (max 1)
2	palm leaves	(max 1)

(of course an expert can be consulted so it doesn't end up with random flowers)

> Player 1 adds 2 irises to the container (10 irises left, 98 flowers total).
> Player 2 adds 3 daisies to the container (24 daisies left, 95 flowers total).
...
> Player 4 adds 2 roses to the container (0 roses left, 0 flowers total).
> Player 4 wins the game!

Ah, so this is kind of like Nim but with flowers and online multiplayer. It’s a good simple, elegant puzzle concept. Would work well as a mobile-app, but it could suffer a little from being difficult to market in a crowded store and a lack of longevity.
